Volunteer Opportunities

Coordinators

Greeting Package Coordinator: The Greeting Package includes Murphy packaged in an easel in a zip lock bag, signed AAS card, package of 3 hand-made note cards, Only in Bozeman sticker, MSU sticker, card signed by public, Bullwinkle’s sticker.

Comfort Package Coordinator: The Comfort Package includes a hand-knit skull cap inserted in a plastic zip lock bag, a handmade neck-cooler inserted in a zip lock bag, a retired star from an American flag inserted in a zip lock bag.  These three items are gathered and inserted in another zip lock bag to insure the smaller items do not get lost or dirty.

Personal Care Package Coordinator: The Personal Care packages includes toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, mouthwash, travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion, sunscreen, lip balm, soap, etc.

The three coordinators above provide quality and quanity control for the items in each package. If supplies fall short, they arrange to get more. They schedule workshops for volunteers to get together to prepare and package items in time for shipping.

Shipping Coordinator: The Shipping Coordinator will need to have shipping supplies on hand. These supplies include packing tape, AAS boxes, and custom form envelopes to meet the shipping goal.  Prior to shipping, this coordinator sets up assembly line with product, coordinates volunteers to pack boxes, arranges volunteers to weigh and seal boxes. Each box weighs around 20 pounds which the coordinator and these volunteers will need to lift.

Volunteer Knitters

Hand Knitted Caps… When the public thinks of Afghanistan or any of the mid-eastern countries, the common perception is that it is always quite hot. The reality is they can have 60 degree swings in a day from extreme heat to extreme cold. Among a cornucopia of useful items, we make every effort to include a hand-knit cap in each of their boxes.

If you can knit and wish to help, please contact Margie Kankrlik at 406-920-0245 or adoptasox@gmail.com for more info. If you are local to the Bozeman area and can pick it up, Adopt A Sox will supply the yarn! Unfortunately, shipping the yarn to volunteers out of the area isn't economically practical.

Is Sewing your Talent?

Included in each of our boxes is a handmade neck-cooler and a handmade pillowcase.  If you can sew, cut fabric, and/or iron and would like to help, please contact Margie at 406-920-0245 or adoptasox@gmail.com

Handmade Note Cards

Local crafters make blank note cards to include in our boxes. These cards allow troops to send special greetings back home without having to go to the PX.
